Black-rumped (Red-eared, Grey) Waxbill - Estrilda Troglodytes
Origin: Africa (Senegal, Gambia, Guines)
Adult male: rump to tail black; white in outer tail feathers, pale pink tinge to breast and belly.
Adult female: as adult male, but lacks pink tinge to breast and belly
Male is a loud, explosive rising (on second syllable)
'tche-tcheer, che-eeer' or 't,chu-wee"; female is a shorter but also explosive 'pwich pwich' or and ascending
A loud repeated 'cheu-cheu', 'chit-chit' or a 'chihooee';
in flight, flocks constantly give a 'tiup-tiup-tiup'.
