European Greenfinch - Carduelis chloris
The song and call of this individual bird can be heard through the player below.
Adult male: extensive yellow edges to primaries; greater coverts and edges to secondaries and teritial grey; yellow sides to base of tail. Female: duller than male; grey-brown upperparts and coverts; alula, primary coverts and primaries finely edged pale yellow; less yellow at sides of base of tail.
Song is a fairly continuous, meandering series of trills, with endless variation on the call notes, occasional tingkling sounds, repeated sweet 'teu-teu-teu's interspersed with sustaine, buzzing 'dzweee's, all delivered in a rich, canary-like voice.
Many and various trilled repetitions of a slightly hard, percussive 'chip' note; sometimes voiced singly. Various renditions of a sweet 'tooey' note are also common.
