Identifications:
Sexes similar. Adult: very similar to Common Waxbill, but with crimson edges to greater coverts, tertials and from rump to uppertail covert; bill blackish with pinkish-red base.
Song:
Song is a some slight variation, i.e. a chattering 'tcha-tcha-tcha-tcha-tcha-tcha-tchurr' recalling Great Tit.
Call:
Call a soft 'tyeek' or 'tyeep' or a harsh, nasal 'tchair', 'tcherr' or 'tchaee', often becoming a double-not 'tche-tchair'.
